What is Google slap? - The Adwords Predicament

You've probably heard the term many times in your quest for information on affiliate marketing but may not know the answer to the question. What is Google slap? The short answer is this: Google slap is an unaffectionate term used to describe what happens when Google makes adjustments to their ranking algorithm. This does two things. First, it drives the cost of AdWords campaigns through the ceiling. The second thing it does is send page ranks plummeting. The slightest of adjustments can make a huge difference to your page rank. As a result your income is likely to decrease until the problem is corrected and your page ranks better.

Whether you are suffering because the Google slap has driven up the rates for clicks too high to make a profit or you are suffering because the rank of your websites have found their way to the very bottom of the Google page ranking system it is a good idea to learn how to overcome the Google slap.

Though no one knows exactly what changes Google has made to its algorithm, many believe that the landing page (where the AdWords ads lead) is directly related to the changes and how they impact individual marketers. The most commonly recommended solution to the Google Slap is to beef up the landing page of your website. Make sure it has more information, more pages, and more relevant information that impacts your niche. Google has its own goals. It is your job as an advertiser to reconcile their goals with what you are offering visitors that find your site through Google.

The goal for Google in doing this is to reward the websites that offer more content that they feel is pertinent to the topic at hand while punishing those that they feel are light on information or filled with fluff. In theory it would be a great thing for all involved. Advertisers who work hard would be better rewarded while those who who are throwing keyword stuffed sites together and never bothering to update or add anything of value to these pages would be punished by higher prices and/or lower page rank. The problem is that algorithms are no infallible and on occasion, a lot more often than anyone likes, the good sites are punished while those that offer less meat and more fluff are rewarded.

So, what can you do to avoid finding out what is Google slap the hard way?

First, remember that there is no fool proof method that will work for 100% of the campaigns 100% of the time. However, taking the time to make sure that your website offers valuable information and lots of it is a step in the right direction. Update your site and landing page regularly so that Google knows you are still actively promoting your web page within your niche. Finally, give Google plenty of material to work with. There are times when less is more. When it comes to marketing on the Internet and information, more is always more--as long as it is valid and valuable information.
